| 5/29/08 - A Pico Base Station for optimising indoor and outdoor WiMAX coverage has been introduced by WiNetworks, a company working in the development and integration of WiMAX 802.16e Wave 2 (MIMO) technologies, available as part of the Win-Max family of products in the 2.XGHz and 3.XGHz frequency range.
WiNetworks said the WiN7200 is a scalable, single piece mini base station providing dedicated outdoor coverage and enhanced in-building services and capacity. The company claimed the small size and limited output power make the base station suited to indoor/outdoor installations delivering WiMAX high speed broadband and makes it the lowest cost base station available for high speed WiMAX access.
According to WiNetworks, the WiN7200 uses the same architecture and software as the company's Compact Base Station (WiN7000), ensuring easy integration and deployment in hybrid environments.
WiNetworks confirmed both products support interfaces to the ASN Gateway and follow the WiMAX Forum's recommendations for interoperability, enabling the WiN7200 to be installed in any existing network with complete interoperability to all 3rd party WiMAX Certified equipment.
Senza Fili Consulting, a company which develops wireless data strategies, said the new Pico Base Station will fill the need for indoor coverage, in a flexible, cost effective way, at a time when indoor and high-capacity coverage are priority issues for operators.
