| 9/23/09 - Synapse Wireless announced
that it is embracing the OpenHAN specifications for home automation
networks.
"Synapse's SNAP technology is an auto-forming, multi-hop, mesh network,
software solution, that brings interoperability and seamless integration to
the Internet using existing standards," states Wade Patterson, CEO of
Synapse Wireless. "We have the technology that supports the goals of
UCAIug's OpenHAN today."
The UCAIug is a non-profit users group comprised of organizations involved
in the electric utility industry's Smart Grid initiative. Its OpenHAN
specification establishes the initial requirements and framework for the
development of well managed and secure customer communications systems.
Frost & Sullivan, in awarding Synapse its "Emerging Company of the Year for
2009," said, "Synapse's complete wireless solution strategy represents a
pioneering endeavor to implement wireless solutions in power management,
renewables, demand response, and smart grid technologies to facilitate
information management and monitoring capabilities."
Synapse crossed the 500th SNAP user milestone, and is seeing applications
being developed for many home automation applications, such as HVAC
control, lighting, metering, and more.
"Energy metering and building monitoring benefit from Synapse's wireless
technology solution due to its ability to retrieve information from harsh
environments, which can then be put on an IP infrastructure and accessed
remotely," added Frost & Sullivan.
"We are very excited about our collaboration with Synapse as we believe
SNAP is the best software standard for Personal Area Networks," said
Richard Trueman, Senior Product Manager, Panasonic Industrial Company.
SNAP-based products from Panasonic, California Eastern Laboratories (CEL)
and Synapse's own Freescale-based modules can all reside on the same SNAP
network and communicate seamlessly.
As a member of the UCAIug, Synapse is looking forward to helping OpenHAN
reach its goals. As Frost & Sullivan observed, "The flexibility and power
of wireless network solutions as provided by Synapse are taking the
industry to new frontiers in functionality with the advantage of
retrofitting building automation systems without the depletion of its
infrastructure."
